The first cricket test match which was played against the Indian team at the Galle grounds, on the final day, Muralitharan achieved this record by grabbing the wicket of Indian cricketer Oja. Muralitharan who was born in Kandy in the year 1972 April 17th had grabbed more wickets in the test matches and one day international matches. During the year 2009, Muralitharan snatched the wicket of Indian cricketer Gowtham Kambeeran in Colombo, which enable him to defeat the world record of 502 wickets which was in possession of Wasim Akram from the one day International cricket series.
Muralitahran in December 3rd, year 2007, captured more number of wickets from the Australian Cricket Shane Wane. He previously had defeated the award of West Indian cricketer Godney Walzin’s 519 test wickets in the year 2004, but due to a pain in his shoulder Shane Wane was able to grab more wickets than Muralitharan. At the time Murali was in the intention of retiring from cricket, his wickets were approximately six wickets of a match. Murali who was playing for the local cricket Tamil union, was also playing for Indian Premier League matches and Chennai Super Kings team.
During his cricket life, Muthiah Muralitharan faced many obstacles to achieve this record. Many cricket umpires during the year 1996 and 1999 made allegations that there is a mistake while Murali spins the ball, which at times was a danger to his cricket future. But the International cricket Association stand to his side, and gave judgment that there is nothing wrong with his bowling, hence his cricket life resumed. During the year 2004, another controversy cropped up about Murali’s Dusra bowling which came a question mark. This issue was that Murali was raising his elbow to 9 degrees hence the new crisis occurred. After a settlement, a ruling was given for the spinners in increasing their elbow level which happened in the year 2005. Hence the final obstruction which was impeding his future got settled. By passing all these many difficulties and achieving the maximum record, Muralitharan informed to his cricket fans on last 18th, that he is retiring from cricket.
